Gas, ventilation and safety
Built-in gas barbecues in covered alfresco areas must be installed with adequate ventilation, and gas work is carried out by a licensed gas fitter. Electrical work for outdoor power, lighting and fridges is done by a licensed electrician with suitable weatherproof fittings.
Approvals
An outdoor kitchen within an existing alfresco area is often straightforward. New roofs, pergolas, enclosing walls or structures near boundaries can need approval, and pool fencing rules must be respected if the kitchen is near a pool.

What materials last outdoors?
Marine-grade or outdoor-rated stainless steel, powder-coated aluminium, compact laminate designed for exterior use, porcelain and natural stone benchtops. Standard indoor cabinetry is not designed for weather and UV exposure.
Does a gas barbecue under a roof need ventilation?

Can we add a sink outside?
